How To: Be Confident in the Teeniest of Bikinis

It can be a huge change—going from winter, spring, and finally to summer. It means taking away the warmth and comfort of knit sweaters, jeans, and winter jackets and switching all that gear to summer dresses, short shorts, and now—in the lovely summertime—bikinis.
But even if you don’t have a drool-worthy, Victoria’s Secret model kind of body, don’t beat yourself up about it, because why should your body type define who you are as an individual?

Here are some useful tips to help you ladies rock your body in even the teeniest of bikinis!

When I was younger, I was terrified when my friends started trading in their one-piece bathing suit for a two-piece. To me, it was technically like wearing your bra and underwear in front of friends, hot guys, and strangers. Uh, Gulp. So naturally, with my—at the time—low self confidence, I grabbed a long, oversized white shirt and wore it over my bikini instead. But now, I really didn’t blend in with everybody else. Instead, I was the girl in the huge white shirt, bobbing in the water, who looked like she screamed, “Look at me, I’m nothing but a self-conscious loser!” While, my friends, on the other hand, had the time of their lives. Their secret? They let go of being self conscious and focused on why we were there—to have fun! With this, I realized that I was the one holding myself back.

As I let go of what other people may have thought, I became more fearless. It took time, but through trial and error, I learned that confidence starts on the inside—if you believe in yourself, then the rest of the world will begin to believe in you, too.

Show that smile:
We can learn a lot from the Victoria’s Secret angels. They each have beautiful features, but their smile is defintely one of their best. The confidence and happiness radiates as you see them own the Victoria’s Secret runway, each with a perfect glossy smile, while using their signature moves to start working the crowd. They look comfortable and that’s exactly what you need to be. “Pretty Girl Rock” by Keri Hilson is perfect for practicing that smile and confident swagger. The gorgeous weather won’t always be here, so enjoy the sunshine while we have it. Next time you’re wearing that bikini, play the song, show off those pearly whites, and smile!

Focus on yourself, not others:
If you constantly obsess about what other people think about you all the time, then you’re likely going to be living in a whole lot of regret—especially if you’re off to spend a day at the beach and waste the entire time feeding into negative thoughts. Instead of doing this, make it your mission to have one of the best days ever. If you see people staring at you, don’t automatically assume that it’s because their judging you. Think of it as a positive and own the attention, because if you focus and care only for yourself, then you’re bound to have an amazing day.

Don’t let the size, color or shape of your body define you. Be confident and comfortable in your own skin; each one of us is beautiful in our own special way, so work it, ladies!
