Be Happy, Feel Beautiful
Remember when you were 10 years old at summer camp, sitting around in the heat, waiting for your parents to come pick you up at the end of the day? Usually counselors provide activities for campers to pass the time, and one of my personal favorites was always making bracelets and anklets out of hemp, gimp, and string. Looking back at old camp photographs and being a part-time counselor myself, I realized the colors and designs I made as a child are still the perfect summer accessory. Check out these tips for how to create your own original accessory!
Making the classic friendship bracelet takes patience—Rome wasn’t built in a day, after all! The first thing you need to do is head to your local crafts store (Michaels, AC Moore, etc) and pick up some basic string in your favorite colors. I always love to switch it up—using four different colors in most cases. Try putting together a bright purple with a dark green and white to get a nice contrast that matches your everyday look. Once you’ve picked up your string, the rest is pretty simple. Learning how to intertwine the string is as easy as going on YouTube .
Once you get the hang of it after five minutes, you’ll want to sit down and thread constantly! Watching your bracelet grow makes it all the more special; only you get to feel the benefits of having an original summer accessory. Try different materials as you go through the summer, like gimp, the shiny, stretchy string that comes in many neon colors and looks great against a tan.
You can even size the bracelets down to make a ring or size up for an anklet to create the perfect beach accessory. Check out these cute designs we found!
