How To: Be Chic For Class

Scrambling to wake up for an early class is nobody’s favorite part of the day—in fact, the mere sound of my alarm clock usually sends me into stress mode.  For many of us, it is difficult to find the time to plan outfits for class or our daily routines without running late or ending up with a serious lack of sleep.  The trick is to plan before you shop for your school clothes.  Knowing what to look for when you shop makes all the difference—think about the kind of vibe you want your duds to give off and don’t make your wardrobe too complicated (it is, after all, just class).   Try not to fall into the ‘jeans and a hoodie’ slump! Looking cute can be as easy as throwing on a funky cardigan or finding an amazing bag that changes up your look.  Follow these tips to find out how to look great for your day without wasting valuable time.

One of the recent trends we’ve been seeing everywhere since last fall are the versatile and super comfy leggings.  The great thing about a basic pair of leggings is that they can be dressed up for any occasion—and class is no exception.  To create a fresh and fabulous quick look, team your favorite (check out American Apparels amazing variety—we love the nylon!) pair with a classic black or brown fall boot. Investing in a tall boot like this will add an element of sophistication to your wardrobe while still allowing you to mix it up.  We love these Dolce Vita boots, $199, from Urban Outfitters.

Next, grab a tee or tank that goes with anything…either something with lots of color or with a basic, neutral tone. Use it as your base layer to go underneath a cardigan or jacket that takes your outfit from plain to “here I am!”  Try something like this slouchy, open cardigan, $14.50, from Forever 21.

The details of the last tips are totally up to you—just remember to always wear at least one piece of jewelry and carry around a bag that you love.  For heading to class and carrying books, look for something big and sturdy that still rises up to your fashion standards. For a fun twist, we like this Marc Jacobs tote, $188—the color mixing is too beautiful to pass up! Try and mix up your jewelry as well—if you’re running late in the morning, don’t worry about matching your earrings to your cuff, just grab whatever’s closest.  Remember to keep things to a minimum, however, and you’ll be pleasantly surprised to see that usually your jewelry ends up complimenting your outfit no matter what.

With back to school shopping just around the corner, keep in mind these tips so you can worry more about your actual classes and less about what your cute lab partner will think of your outfit.

Awesome advice. I hate when people tell me to plan my outfits the day ahead… Like I have time or patience for that. I love the look of leggings with a pair of knee high boots and a loose fitted top.
