How To: Meet New People

It can be especially difficult to make new friends in this day and age when one can have a totally intimate relationship with their iPhone or computer. So, here are some great tips on how to rack up new members for your fabulous entourage!

Be Social: Obviously the only way you’re going to meet new people is to go out of your comfort zone and strike up a casual conversation with people you haven’t met before. So hop off your couch and get out, and finally put your friend antennas on! There are a ton of people in the world, you have yet to meet the best, so get the ball rolling at bars, sports events and even the gym! Meeting people in these hotspots not only means you’re meeting people more frequently but you’re meeting people who share similar interests with you, therefore increasing the chances of you conversing only with those who have serious future friend potential!

Don’t be Shy: Get over being shy and speak up. You might not even have to directly approach someone, they might approach you, but it is your job to keep the conversation moving, so start talking! Don’t let being timid ruin your appeal, people are friendlier than you might think, unless you live in NYC (yea I can say that since I’m from NYC).

Be Nice: You definitely catch more bees with honey so why not catch more friends this way too? Avoid discussing topics that are too controversial or will end up in heated debates. Have your heated debates with your current friends if you feel like you must express your views to someone. Snd if you don’t have any friends to discuss your opinions with then maybe you should think about that!

Smile: Nothing says friendly like a smile. Don’t be a creeper though, you don’t want to scare anyone off so just tone down the mega-watt grin and opt for a more sincere smirk. Smiling puts people at ease and lets them know that they are not in your way or annoying you, so they will be less apprehensive to approach you.

Social Networking: For those of us who absolutely cannot meet people allow me to introduce you to the worldwide web! Now more than ever websites are helping people meet others they might not have! Match.com and MeetUp.com are allowing singles and others to start the conversations at home on the couch! Of course, you can’t forget websites like Twitter, Facebook and even blogs, which can help you find people with similar interests and tastes! So, there’s really no excuse to not make new friends! But of course meeting people the good old fashioned way might still be your best bet since you never really know who you’re talking to online. And if you do choose to take this route always be cautious!

We all know how important it is to surround ourselves around good people and loyal friends, so remember to choose your friends wisely! I hope these tips find you with some new and awesome friends! Have fun and be safe my friendly belles!
