Be Happy, Feel Beautiful
It’s that time again – winter. Depending on where you live, this may mean different things but to many, it means cold, snowy, wet, icy, terrible, disgusting weather. That also may mean moving your workout from outside in the warm sunshine to inside the gym.
Working out in a gym can start out well, but can become monotonous very quickly, making for some very bored Belles. Getting into a gym rat rut can be hard to get out of, so before this boredom sets in, try some of these tricks to keep your gym life lively all winter long!
Are you sick of pounding out miles on the treadmill and going absolutely nowhere? Sign up for a fun group class! Most gym packages include these classes in your annual or monthly fee, so take advantage! Fun classes are Body Pump, spin, kickboxing. The options are endless, fun and highly motivational!
Working out alone can lead to boredom and lack of motivation, which can sometimes translate to low-quality workouts. Next time you are thinking of backing out of going to the gym, call up a friend and hit the elliptical together. You will instantly be inspired by each other, and will end up working a lot harder then you expected. Plus, it’s a great time to catch up!
Buy New Gear
Buy cute new gear to show off in the gym . I don’t know about you, but if I spend $50 on a pair of lululemon running shorts, I’m going to want to wear them as soon as possible!
Go at a Different Time
If you can, change your routine a little bit. When you go to the gym at the same time every day, you’re probably seeing the same people all the time. Get a change of scenery and hit up the gym at a different time and scope out fellow gym rats! People watching always makes the time fly by!
Make a New Playlist or Download a Podcast
Make a new rocking playlist on your Ipod before you head out the door. Anticipating a fun music lineup can help you work out longer because you want to hear all of your favorite songs.
Another option is to download a podcast. Podcasts can be either long sets of music or talks about certain topics and most can last close to an hour. I like to listen to the music variety by different DJs. I learn a lot of new music and the variety keeps me entertained the entire hour so I never get bored.
Try a New Machine
Are you a biking Belle or someone who will only go on the treadmill? Try switching up the machines you use. This will help alleviate boredom and help prevent injury.
Do you constantly find yourself staring at the clock on your machine, just willing the time to fly by? Well, try doing an interval workout and time actually will fly! Split your workout into tiny sections—like one minute really hard, one minute off or 45 seconds on, 15 seconds off. Change the resistance, the speed and the incline for each interval. This will trick your mind into thinking time is passing really quickly because you’re working in small units, rather then just looking at one giant block of time.
We all know the gym can seem like a prison in the dead of winter, but if you try to change up your workout, change your outlook, and try new forms of exercise, then the gym may not be as bad as you think!
