Fashion Chronicles: How To Wear Your Summer Dresses All Year Round

The transition between summer and fall can make you feel like there is nothing wearable in your closet. It is extremely difficult to leave behind festivals, stargazing, and especially those easy-breezy summer dresses. Never fear, though, because there are so many amazing ways to transition those summer sundresses into layered fall looks. Especially if you just aren’t ready to break out your neutral sweater dresses (or have worn them more times that you can count on one hand already) and basic blacks. Here are some tips for each major summer style you might have gathering dust in your closet

Florals: It might sound strange or counterintuitive to wear a floral dress in the fall. But actually, floral prints can look feminine and romantic no matter the season. Pair your floral dress with a leather jacket and tough black booties or wedges to downplay the softness. Add a marled cardigan, fingerless gloves, and a black headband to accessorize for fall. Also, layer some black tights and turtlenecks underneath to make it cozy for cold weather.

Graphics: Graphic print dresses are extremely eye-catching and visually interesting. They are a statement in and of themselves that you can make all year round by dressing them up the right way. Add a denim jacket and some brown classic oxfords for an update on a summer style. Finish the look off with a brown belt and gray sweater leggings.

Shirt-dresses: Shirtdresses, especially when they are in a beautiful color and are well-tailored, are so flattering on any figure. They are the perfect pieces to wear to work or stroll around the park on a crisp, fall afternoon. Be adventurous with a faux-fur vest and over-the-knee socks and boots. This is a perfect, urban look for winter. Finish it off with a cute knit beanie and a statement necklace.

Maxis: Maxis seem like the epitome of summer fashion but, if styled correctly, they can look chic and sophisticated all year-round. Pair your bright maxis with a letterman or military inspired jacket. Add some tough booties and layer with a flannel button down and voila, you have an awesome, 90s-inspired look.

Nautical: Nautical motifs and stripes are so adorable and nostalgic for the days of pin-up girls and Fleet Week sailors. Transition that maritime irreverence into the fall with a few quick additions. Add a cute, dark belt and bright heathered tights to your seafaring silhouettes. Also, don’t be afraid to add a fisherman-inspired cardigan or a tailored blazer to the look. Finish off with some chunky suede pumps for a night on the town.

Pastels: Pastels and whimsical shades seem especially difficult to transition to the fall but, with some bold accessories, it can really work. Add a feminine cardigan and ribbon belt in fall hues like forest green, rust, or mustard to any light-hued pieces you might have in your closet. Add some cut out flats and black opaque tights and you have a sophisticated, unfussy soiree look!
