Be Happy, Feel Beautiful
30 years after the mysterious death of actress Natalie Wood, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department has announced they will reopen the case as a result of newly discovered evidence.
Wood is famous for her roles in films such as Miracle on 34th Street, West Side Story, Gypsy and many more. The actress starred in a total of 56 films for both T.V. and the big screen.
On the evening of November 28, 1981, the actress was on board a yacht with her husband, actor Robert Wagner, and Wood’s costar at the time, Christopher Walken. Wood and her husband were seen arguing by the boat captain Dennis Davern, who claims that Wagner sought him out after the argument claiming he could not find Wood.
The body of the 43-year-old actress was found November 29, floating near Santa Catalina Island.
Up until early this month Wood’s death has been ruled an accident, although the aura of a Hollywood tragedy has always surrounded her death.
Davern is the co-author of a book about Natalie Wood titled Goodbye Natalie, Goodbye Splendour. The book was published in 2010, and in it Davern holds the actress’ husband Robert Wagner responsible for her death.
When interviewed on the Today Show Davern said “I did lie on a report years ago. I did make mistakes by not telling the honest truth.” Davern was not forthcoming with what he actually lied about to police back in 1981.
After Wood initially went missing Davern claims that Wagner did not do all he could to try to find his wife. “It was to be kept a low profile investigation.”
When asked directly by the NBC interviewer “was [Wagner] responsible for her death?” Davern replied, “Yes, I would say so, yes.”
When asked to back up his allegations against Wagner, Davern said, “I really don’t want to get involved in answering that question right now.” The NBC journalist interviewing accused Davern of not having enough information to back up his claim and of being an opportunist looking for profit.
“I’m in it for the justice,” Davern replied.
Police are still looking into Wood’s case but so far have stated that Wagner is not a suspect.
