Be Happy, Feel Beautiful
Amy Winehouse’s third album, Lioness: Hidden Treasures, was released posthumously on December 2nd reaching number one on the British charts. On Tuesday, her father released information about the album’s sales via Twitter, stating it sold 140,000 copies, which means 140,000 Euros donated to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, a foundation whose mission is to “bring healthier and happier lives to young people.”
The tracks were chosen by her two producers, Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi, as well as by members of her family. The songs include covers as well as previously unreleased original songs by the Grammy award-winning artist. The first single, “Body and Soul”, a duet with Tony Bennet, made the Billboard Top 100 back in September ranking at No. 87. The second single, “Our Day Will Come” has also gained great popularity and excellent reviews.
This album is likely to be Amy’s last, as producer Remi stated in an interview with NME, a popular UK music publication, that this album would not be the first of a series of posthumously released albums, like those of Tupac Shakur.
The tragic loss of the young star in July has affected the entire entertainment community, yet her influence will undoubtedly live on through her music and memory. After all, who could possibly forget Back to Black or her big hair and thick black eyeliner?
